12/11/2024

In line with the theme of World Children's Day 2024, ‘Listen to the Future’, Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) launched a new radio show, ‘In the Shoes of Children’ this October. The 13-episode programme calls on the public to hear the voices of children.

Our Junior DJs are exploring critical issues faced by children in their first ‘7,000 Days of Life’, including climate change, mental health and what it takes to make a city child friendly with stakeholders from different sectors.

Ms Judy Chen, Chairperson of UNICEF HK was invited to the first episode ‘travelled around the world’ and discussed how Shenzhen, Japan, Korea, and many more places constructed their Child Friendly Cities. Dr Ko Wing Man, Council Member of UNICEF HK, shared his ideas on child safeguarding issue. Mr Fong Chung Lun, Advocacy Committee Member of UNICEF HK, explored the importance of mental health with Junior DJs. Cellist Trey Lee, Ambassador of UNICEF HK, exchanged views on art education and development along with professionals from the government and social welfare sectors to deliberate about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.

‘In the Shoes of Children’ is now on air every Saturday 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the RTHK Putonghua Channel, as well as RTHK ON THE GO, RTHK Radio applications, and the rthk.hk website. To listen in, please refer to: https://www.rthk.hk/radio/pth/programme/g1510_in_the_shoes_of_children
