"UNICEF Club Appreciation Ceremony 2022/23" Successfully Held
Hong Kong, 25 August, 2023 — Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) recently hosted “UNICEF Club Appreciation Ceremony 2022/23” to commend participating schools and students for their enthusiastic support. Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Ms May Chiu, Acting Executive Director of UNICEF HK, and the principals, advisory teachers, and student council representatives of schools participating in the UNICEF Club programme.
The results of UNICEF Club this year are remarkable, with over 400 students from 39 local and international schools organizing nearly a hundred campus activities. These activities included setting up a virtual art gallery, conducting DIY charity sales, collecting and donating second-hand items, game booths, and workshops. Such efforts have reached over 15,000 students and teachers, deepening their understanding about children’s situations worldwide, UNICEF's work, child rights, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Participating students also demonstrated their sense of responsibility as global citizens by organizing fundraising events after earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, raising nearly HK$90,000 to assist UNICEF in providing emergency aid to the affected regions.
During her speech at the ceremony, Ms May Chiu, Acting Executive Director of UNICEF HK, expressed her gratitude to the school principals, teachers, and students who supported UNICEF Club. She highlighted, "UNICEF Club is a platform for participatory learning, allowing students to learn more about the conditions of children worldwide and UNICEF's work, and to practice the values of global citizenship.” She also praised participating students for their creativity and accomplishments, encouraging them to continue effecting positive changes to the world.
UNICEF Club programme was introduced by UNICEF HK in 2007, and it has since provided students with opportunities to fulfil their responsibilities as global citizens. The programme welcomes all students, inspiring them to establish student councils at school and organize campus activities to raise awareness of child issues.
The new term of UNICEF Club is recruiting members. If you want to contribute to the world and be an inspiration to your peers, don’t miss out on this chance!
