Hong Kong, 26 Oct 2021 –  Speaking at the 2^nd Women Power Forum in Hong Kong, Ms. Judy Chen, Chairman of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK), pointed out the world has evolved at an unprecedented pace and has stepped into a new social norm, especially in the past two years. To overcome the challenges, Ms. Chen suggested young people to become life-long learners by equipping themselves with four fundamental skills, foundation, transferrable, digital, and job-specific skills. These skills will enable young people to actively engage and excel in the ever-changing society.

Under the current global situation, Ms. Chen pointed out gender division has worsened, particularly in developing regions with the influence of the pandemic, conflicts in various regions, and war zones. The ratio of girls who are capable to be admitted into a school is decreasing and the number is concerning.

To address gender inequality, Ms. Chen shared the Twin Policy initiated by UNICEF. Through building a better policy environment to empower women’s right in economic participation, hence enabling them to fulfil their role as caregivers to their children at home. In the Gender Action 2022-2025, five goal areas were set to increase adolescent girls’ participation and leadership.

Ms. Chen took the opportunity to introduce UNICEF HK’s new initiative on mental health wellbeing, including the newly launched #OnMyMind campaign and development of the upcoming platform for children’s voices.

The 2^nd Women Power Forum was hosted by the Hong Kong Federation of Women and co-hosted by Golden Bauhinia Women Entrepreneur Association. It focused on women empowerment, and aimed to create a constructive milieu where women’s voices could be heard and heeded.
