HONG KONG, 22 AUGUST 2017 – The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) announced that the enrolment for the UNICEF Charity Run 2017 (“Charity Run”) will start at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 24 August 2017. Entering its 12th year, the Charity Run is calling for 14,000 runners to join its efforts in support of UNICEF’s work for every child. All proceeds will go to support UNICEF’s work for the most at-risk and excluded children globally. Organized by UNICEF HK, the Charity Run will be held on Sunday, 26 November 2017 at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Sunny Bay. As the only charity race in Hong Kong recognized by AIMS, the Charity Run provides a wide array of races, including Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5km Run and 3km Run (Youth and Family) for individual runners or families to choose from.

This year, the Charity Run introduces the first STAR WARS™ RUN Hong Kong 2017 (“Star Wars™ 5km Run” powered by Star Wars: Force for Change, a charitable initiative from Lucasfilm and Disney that harnesses the strength of Star Wars to empower and improve the lives of children around the world).

The Star Wars™ 5km Run will be available for individual runners aged 16 and over. Participants are welcome to dress up in their favorite Star Wars costume and have fun at the Star Wars-themed photo booth. Members from Star Wars fan groups will cheer runners on during the race. Each eligible participant will receive a runner pack comprised of a set of limited-edition Star Wars merchandise, including an adidas I Star Wars Event Tee, a drawstring bag, a towel, a finisher medal and a Hot Toys BB-8 Cosbaby (S) Bobble-Head.

Together, the Charity Run is expected to raise over HK$11 million to support UNICEF’s global campaign against AIDS, which focuses on protecting babies from being infected with HIV at birth and providing treatment, counselling and support for mothers and children affected by HIV and AIDS. Since the launch of UNICEF Charity Run in 2006, it has engaged over 110,000 runners from different sectors and raised over HK$110 million.

Jane Lau, Chief Executive of UNICEF HK, said, “I am glad to have the first Star Wars™ 5km Run in Hong Kong as part of our UNICEF Charity Run this year. I believe this first-ever Star Wars™ 5km Run will not only ing new excitement to all our event participants, but also help us mobilize more resources for children in need globally. We would call for the city of Hong Kong to come out and run for every child in support of UNICEF’s work for the most at-risk and excluded children.”

UNICEF Charity Run 2017 is made possible by Diamond Sponsors CCB International (Holdings) Limited, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited and S.F. Express (Hong Kong) Limited, Gold Sponsors Asia Miles Limited and New World Development Company Limited and a number of supporting partners.

In addition, Official Sportswear adidas Hong Kong Limited will provide event souvenir T-shirts and training workshops for runners.
