Acknowledgement Ceremony of ‘SDG Actioner Challenge’ for Ethnic Minority Youth 2023-2024 cum UNICEF Young Envoys Programme 2024 Achievement Exhibition

Hong Kong, 4 July 2024 – The Acknowledgement Ceremony of 'SDG Actioner Challenge' for Ethnic Minority Youth 2023-2024, along with the UNICEF Young Envoys Programme 2024 Achievement Exhibition were held on 29 June 2024. The event celebrated outstanding contributions of schools and students who actively participated in demonstrating the importance of practising and promoting child rights in sustainable development.
‘SDG Actioner Challenge’ for Ethnic Minority Youth of this year was sponsored by AEON Credit Service (Asia) Co., Ltd. The programme emphasized on two main goals: championing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG13) Climate Action; and fostering impactful school-based/community projects with a focus on waste solutions. These projects were designed to raise social awareness and draw attention to sustainable development issues. Attendees of the event learned from our SDG Actioners about their solid waste recovery and upcycling devices, how food waste could be recycled into fertiliser, and witnessed the impact of all the waste upcycling projects.
The event was attended by Mr. Fong Chung Lun, MH, member of Advocacy Committee, UNICEF HK, Mr. Wei Aiguo, Managing Director, AEON Credit Service (Asia) Co. Ltd., school principals, teachers and students who participated in the programme, and UNICEF Young Envoys.
Mr. Fong Chung Lun, MH encouraged students to put their ideas into actions, highlighting the support from youth is critical to climate change mitigation. He believes that advocacy for sustainable development will be beneficial to the promotion of environmental friendly lifestyle. Mr. Wei Aiguo praised the programme for raising public awareness on sustainable development and promoting inclusion.

Ms Karen Mok, UNICEF HK's Ambassador, delivered a video commending the remarkable performance of ethnic minority students. She believes their participation and contributions to sustainable development would inspire others in the community to promote diversity and social cohesion.
Additionally, UNICEF Young Envoys showcased two innovative youth-led initiatives of SDG 13. Among these was a self-engineered solar power light chaser designed to provide dependable electricity to children in underprivileged areas, thus ensuring uninterrupted access to essential services both day and night.

The public participated in booth games and workshops designed by SDG Actioner Teams and UNICEF Young Envoys.
