Young Envoys Visit to the Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry

28 August 2024, Hong Kong – Eye on the world; exert local influence. UNICEF Young Envoys recently visited the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong (OCMFA Hong Kong). Commissioner, Mr Cui Jian-chun, and Deputy Commissioner, Mr Li Yong-sheng, welcomed Young Envoys and conversed about duties and daily operation of the Office. With a tour around the Office's historical photo exhibition gallery in addition, Young Envoys deepened their understanding of both national and international affairs.

The Deputy Commissioner shared about his diplomatic career and China’s pursuit of an independent foreign policy of peace. He encouraged Young Envoys to further develop their talents and grow into a new generation with local belonging, a national identity, and an international outlook in constructing the future of Hong Kong. Young Envoys introduced their advocacy projects and trip to child-friendly cities in Japan to Mr Li and the rest of the Office. The visit to OCMFA Hong Kong was concluded as an indelible experience in life by Young Envoys.

Representatives from Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK), including Chairman Ms Judy Chen; Council Members Mr Matthias Li, Mr Ivan Chu, Mr Richard Tsang, Dr Barbara Lam, Dr Jim Lai, Mr Ellis Cheng; Ambassador Ms Guo Jing-jing; and Executive Director Ms May Chiu, exchanged views with Mr Cui on further promoting the well-being of children and young people. Mr Cui appreciated UNICEF HK’s dedication to youth empowerment, as well as encouraged continuous efforts in promoting Child Friendly Cities and "Telling Good Stories of Hong Kong". Ms Chen added that on the path of promoting youth development and implementing child-friendly measures, the visit provided invaluable inspiration to Young Envoys and the team. UNICEF HK is committed to enhancing future communication and cooperation with authorities and stakeholders across various sectors to advocate for child-friendly initiatives.
