19/09/2024
Hong Kong, 19 September 2024 – Listen to the voices of our youth; pave their way to growth. Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) hosted the Appointment Ceremony of UNICEF Young Envoys Programme 2024 on 24th August. Following a year of nurturing programme including training and field trip, 37 Young Envoys were appointed to carry out their duties of promoting child rights in their communities.
UNICEF Young Envoys Programme (the Programme), launched by UNICEF HK in 1996, aims to provide a valuable opportunity for young people in Hong Kong to explore global and local issues in relation to children’s rights to survival, protection, development, and participation. This year, the Programme focused on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 13 - Climate Action and the Child Friendly Cities Initiative.
Mr Ivan Chu, Chairman of the Advocacy Committee at UNICEF HK, and Ms Tracy Wan, Executive Director of AEON Credit Service (Asia) Co. Ltd., presented Certificates of Appointment to the Young Envoys who have completed the Programme, celebrating their contribution to child rights advocacy over the past months.
Mr Ivan Chu acknowledged the advocacy efforts by Young Envoys and appreciated their global perspective in observing child rights issues and participations in relevant discussions. He likened the Young Envoys as beacons of hope for advocating children’s well-being and practicing sustainable lifestyles. In line with UNICEF HK's vision of ‘GenAction’, he wished that after the appointment, Young Envoys would adhere to their mission and continue contributing to promoting Hong Kong as a child-friendly city.
Ms Tracy Wan, representative of the Programme sole sponsor, expressed her excitement for the continuous growth of Young Envoys. She remarked that through the Programme, Young Envoys had demonstrated and improved their leadership, teamwork, and planning capabilities – essential skills for their personal growth and self-fulfilment in the future.
During the ceremony, Young Envoys presented their achievements. Through a series of interactive campaigns including questionnaires, information panels and educational sessions conducted for children, Young Envoys advocated the importance of sustainable development and the four pillars of child rights. With the meaningful experience gained, Young Envoys are committed to continue their actions in support of the Child Friendly Cities Initiative.
As Young Envoys Programme 2024 came to a fruitful end, admission for 2025 will commence this October. We encourage everyone to share our recruitment news to students in vicinity, thereby creating a better society with the power of youth!
