Hong Kong, July 22, 2026 – Representatives from Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) recently visited Hong Kong Children's Hospital to tour several paediatric specialist facilities and support services, exchanging views on the hospital's latest developments in child healthcare and the progress of the Hong Kong Breast Milk Bank.

The visiting group was led by UNICEF HK Chairman Ms Judy Chen, together with Council Member Dr Barbara Lam, Communications and Media Relations Committee Member Ms Lorraine Chan, Finance and Administration Committee Member Mr Armstrong Lee,  as well as UNICEF Youth Envoys and Young Envoys PLUS.

The group was welcomed and guided by Dr Lee Tsz Leung, Hospital Chief Executive of Hong Kong Children's Hospital, and Dr Rosanna Wong, Director of the Hong Kong Breast Milk Bank, on a tour of the Specialist Outpatient Clinic, Cardiology Ward, Family Overnight Rooms, Patient Resource Centre, and the Hong Kong Breast Milk Bank.

The hospital truly brings its "child-centred, family-friendly" philosophy to life by offering comprehensive physical and emotional support for sick children and their families. Facilities like the Family Overnight Rooms allow parents to remain close by, ensuring continuous and attentive care. Meanwhile, the Patient Resource Centre features a thoughtfully designed space with diverse activities tailored to the recreational, social, educational, and emotional needs of these families. This holistic approach not only helps children rediscover their smiles but also enhances overall treatment outcomes.

Dedicated to ensuring every child receives optimal nutrition, the visiting group also toured the Hong Kong Breast Milk Bank to learn firsthand how the facility provides vital nutritional support to premature, ill, and other vulnerable infants. Since opening in 2025, the milk bank has seen remarkable success. According to Dr Rosanna Wong, over 500 mothers have registered as donors, contributing more than 4,000 litters of breast milk to benefit more than 600 newborns in need.

Moving forward, UNICEF HK will continue to drive its "Say Yes To Breastfeeding" campaign. By mobilizing businesses and organizations, the initiative encourages working mothers to sustain breastfeeding and consider milk donation, ultimately nurturing their own babies while providing a lifeline to other infants in need.

Ms. Judy Chen, Chairperson of the UNICEF HK Committee, expressed her deep appreciation to the hospital for its thoughtful arrangements. "Hong Kong Children's Hospital and UNICEF HK share a unified vision: to protect the health and future of every child," she noted. "The hospital's child-centric approach, outstanding family-friendly facilities, and the incredible impact of the Hong Kong Milk Bank are testaments to Hong Kong's remarkable advancements in paediatric care. We hope all sectors of society will continue to prioritize children's health, extending this commitment from our medical systems into the wider community to build a more inclusive, healthier, and child-friendly city."

The visit also served as an inspiring educational experience for the UNICEF HK Youth Envoys and Young Envoys PLUS members. By engaging with frontline medical professionals, the youth representatives gained a direct understanding of how a high-quality healthcare system impacts child development. This experience broadened their perspectives on youth advocacy, laying a strong foundation for their future work in championing children's rights.
