2013-11-04

Hong Kong, 4 November 2013 – Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) is pleased to announce that United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr Wu Hong-bo has appointed Ms Judy Chen, Chairman of UNICEF HK, to join his Advisory Group, and to become the Standing Member of the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF). Ms Chen is the first and at present the only Chinese member in DCF Standing Committee, to help enhance the implementation of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, and promote dialogue to find effective ways to support it.
“This is a big encouragement to my continuous work for children with my fellow members in the Council and colleagues in UNICEF HK. With my expanded role in the United Nations, I can mobilise influential leaders and key stakeholders in the world to work together to solve global issues and contribute to bigger progress for children. To improve the well-being of children, we need a well-organised platform like DCF to share intelligence, leverage resources, and join efforts. I can’t wait to do more for the betterment of children in the world,” said Judy Chen, Chairman of UNICEF HK.
Ms Chen had recently attended the DCF Switzerland High-Level Symposium on behalf of the DCF’s Advisory Group on 24-25 October 2013. In addition, Ms Chen will be granted the lifetime achievement award, ‘Contribution Prize of International Week of Science and Peace’ on 10 November 2013 at a ceremony in Beijing celeating the 25th Anniversary of UN International Week of Science and Peace.
DCF is one of the principal functions of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It was mandated by the 2005 World Summit. ECOSOC convened the first biennial DCF in July 2008 to review trends and progress in international development cooperation and promote greater coherence among the development activities of different development partners. The DCF is a principal forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on international development cooperation at global level. It ought together all key development cooperation actors, including Member States, multilateral organisations and players from the United Nations system as well as civil society organisations, parliamentarians, local governments and the private sector.
