Chinese New Year family activity: UNICEF HK Little Artists Big Dreams Drawing Competition now opens for local little artists to enrol and support the maternal and child healthcare in deprived areas in China

2016-01-17

HONG KONG, 17 January 2016 ── Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) will hold the China Children's Week 2016 – Little Artists Big Dreams Drawing Competition on 13 Feuary 2016 (Saturday) at Central Lawn, Victoria Park. The competition aims to raise funds for UNICEF’s 'Cash Transfers for Deprived Children' Project in China. The theme of this year is ‘Happiness is …’ and we cordially invite local little artists aged 12 or below to participate in this meaningful event and draw their best wishes to children in China. In the spirit of ‘Kids helping kids’, children can also donate their “lucky money” to help deprived children in China to get access to essential healthcare.

The funds raised through the competition will continue to support the 'Cash Transfers for Deprived Children' Project in rural China, targeting 15 provinces in Yunnan, Gansu and Sichuan. Pregnant women in the provinces are eligible for a cash subsidy as an incentive to get medical care, such as antenatal and postnatal checkup, birth delivery in hospital and immunization for their child. As of January 2016, 12,146 pregnant women and infants under 12 months have been supported through the project.
