UNICEF Young Envoys Programme 2022 Appointment Ceremony

HONG KONG, 29 August 2022 —— Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) hosted UNICEF Young Envoys 2022 Appointment Ceremony on 25 August. Mr. Ivan Chu, Chairman of Advocacy Committee, UNICEF HK and Mr. Daisuke Takenaka, Executive Director, AEON Credit Service (Asia) Co., Ltd. presented Certificate of Appointment to Young Envoys who have completed the programme. They also encouraged our youth to gain a deeper understanding of crises faced by children around the world and their developmental needs as they grow, so as to bring positive changes to survival and growth of every child.
UNICEF HK has organized 26 training sessions to the aspiring youth who have passed a rigorous selection process. The experience offered them continuous learning, self-improvement and community service opportunities. Almost 1,400 Young Envoys were nurtured since UNICEF HK launched the Programme in 1996.
Mr. Ivan Chu, Chairman of Advocacy Committee, UNICEF HK mentioned in his speech “Even though the pandemic has made it extreme difficult to attend on-site events, it did not deter Young Envoys from active learning. This year’s Young Envoys has promoted children’s rights and the vision of ‘Reimagine Education’ to general public through various means such as writings, drawings, community services and short films.”
Mr. Daisuke Takenaka, Executive Director of AEON Credit Service (Asia) Co., Ltd. which has been a steadfast sponsor of Young Envoys programme for 15 years spoke with joy that “AEON Credit Service has selected Young Envoys as our annual core support programme since 2008 because we share similar youth development beliefs. I hope every member of Young Envoys keeps on sharing love, compassion and experience from Hong Kong to the world, inspire other people with their zest and passion.”
Two of the appointed Young Envoys have shared with audience their takeaway from joining the Programme. Michelle Ngai said it has helped to strengthen her analytical skills and equipped her to be an active global citizen. Chloe Tang described becoming a Young Envoy helped her realize she can make positive changes to the community and local children. She will keep on upholding the missions of Young Envoys and contribute to children’s rights promotion.
Application period for next year’s Young Envoys Programme will commence in October. Full-time students aged 12-18 who are interested to become children’s rights advocates are welcomed to enrol. Details available at: https://genaction.unicef.org.hk/zh-hant/programs/detail/8/

About Young Envoys Programme
UNICEF Young Envoys Programme launched by UNICEF HK in 1996 aims to provide a valuable opportunity for Hong Kong youngsters to explore global and local issues in relation to children’s rights to survival, protection, development and participation. The Programme enables local youngsters to better understand the difficulties and challenges children facing globally, and to partner with UNICEF to end children’s suffering.
