Work in progress for re-scheduling UNICEF Charity Run to early part of 2017

2016-12-01

HONG KONG, 1 December 2016 — The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) announces that it is working towards resuming the UNICEF Charity Run in the early part of 2017 at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, as a replacement event for the one cancelled on Sunday 27 November 2016. The arrangement has yet to be confirmed and work is in progress for obtaining all the permits and approvals from various government departments, and liaising with partners.

The cancellation of the event on 27 November 2016 was deemed necessary in view of the adverse weather conditions at the site and the safety hazards that could pose on volunteers, staff, contractors and runners.

“In the past few days, we have been actively working to re-schedule the event with the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association. We will inform the runners when the arrangements are confirmed,” said Ms Jane Lau, Chief Executive of UNICEF HK.

Runners who have signed up for the UNICEF Charity Run 2016 are advised to keep the runner tees and race number bibs (attached with timing chip) until further notice.

The UNICEF Charity Run has been an annual event since 2006 that aims to raise fund for the global campaign against AIDS and to protect maternal and child health in developing countries. This year, 14,000 runners and 1,300 volunteers, including supporting services, participated in the event.
